Mr. Elder was replaced as conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Elizabeth Watts on the 26th of October 2019 at the Royal Festival.

He conducted a programme of Symphony No 2 by Ives and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 3 with Kirill Gerstein playing the piano on the 14th of April 2019.

He conducted the Britten Sinfonia on the 17th of January 2019 in a programme consisting of Britten's Suite on English Folk Tunes, Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Brahms' Symphony No 2 at the Barbican Hall.

Mr. Elder first conducted at the Royal Albert Hall during the BBC Proms season on Thursday the 29th of July 1976. The orchestra for that performance was the English Chamber Orchestra.

He made his BBC Proms debut with the London Sinfonietta on the 1st of September 1975 at The Round House.
